2067 REVIEW

One man’s journey to the future to save a dying world.

Starring: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ryan Kwanten, and Leeanna Walsman

Directed by: Seth Larney

Written by: Seth Larney, and Dave Paterson

With all the threats to mankind, “2067” explores a big one that hopefully won’t come for a time much further in the future. It seems like Earth has just about run out of oxygen, and there aren’t many survivors left. Obviously they can’t stay on Earth without oxygen, so the survivors are looking for solutions to the problem before it’s too late. Part of that solution comes via a time machine, and the other part comes from someone who seems destiny for this moment.
That person is Ethan (Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is overworking himself in order to make sure his wife is getting the best care as possible. She’s one of many still left that has fallen sick during this oxygen crisis. That’s a tough situation for him, and it’s about to get tougher. The company looking for solutions has called him to their facility with an offer. Apparently they have the time machine ready to transport him to another time. Why him…well it has something to do with his father’s work, and maybe more.

While the situation with Earth is pretty dire, it’s Ethan who the audience will feel for. He's basically tasked with saving the remaining people alive on Earth including his sick wife. Once he gets to this other time, he must figure out why it was him that had to go, and what he needs to do to help the others. He gets a huge surprise with the dead body he finds. For good reason, he becomes obsessed with this body, and figuring out why it has a bullet in its head.
In order to help solve this mystery, he goes through a series of flash backs to his younger life, and how he got to this point. One of those things is a bracelet his dad put on him when he was little. It’s just one of the things effecting his future and the people back home. Speaking of the people back home, there’s some  drama there as well. They wait in hopes that Ethan will actually come through, but also might not have told him everything and have plans of their own. All these questions, and drama come to an exciting end when Ethan decides what to do.

“2067” creates an interesting setting both in their current day Earth, and at the time in the future. If you’re a sci-fi fan, you might enjoy learning all that is presented about both places. However, you’ll also have to learn all there is about Ethan as well. There’s nothing wrong with that except that it might get too emotional, and dramatic at times. There’s a decent mystery created, and a very big decision that must be ultimately made. As for my decision on this film, I give it 2.5 pools of blood.
