Thrown into the face of death only to emerge unharmed, the characters of Immortal are left staring at eternity in the face with uncertainty and fear like they’ve never imagined. The film follows Chelsea, a high school track star who comes clean about sexual misconduct with her coach only to find out her confession might be too late, Gary and Vanessa, a young, expecting married couple who scheme a morbid solution to their financial issues, Ted, a man filled with sorrow who agrees to euthanize his cancer-ridden wife Mary, and Warren, a young man with little direction in life who is forced to discover his new gifts after a tragic accident.

Some people live life to its fullest, and others live in fear. No matter how you live life it’s certain that it will end in death. However, what if you died only to come back to life minutes later? What if you, or someone close to you was immortal and had no idea? And what would you do after you found out? Those are just some of the questions explored in “Immortal.”
The movie is pretty much an anthology except for the fact that it’s missing that one story that brings everything together. Instead, the one thing that binds these stories together is immortality. The first tale opens in a high school, and follows a student named Chelsea (Lindsay Mushett). Her track coach seems to have a thing for her, and another teacher, Mr. Shagis (Dylan Baker) notices this. Can he help Chelsea before something worse happens? This story will end up in a very typical horror setting, but done this time in an unusual way. The twists and turns will definitely get the audience’s attention heading into the second story.
While the audience might feel sorry for the situation Chelsea finds herself in, the emotions will be running high in the stories to follow. The next story is about Gary (Brett Edwards) and Vanessa (Agnes Bruckner), who have fallen on hard times financially while expecting a new baby very soon. They’ve create a way to get out of it, but it doesn’t go as planned. A small bump in the road soon becomes an enormous one, and this ends in truly shocking fashion.
Before the audience can catch their breath they will be thrown into an extremely touching story. Mary (Robin Bartlett) has been battling cancer for awhile now, and her husband Ted (Tony Todd) has suffered every minute by her side. With no cure in sight, they’ve decided to take matters into their own hands, and let Mary end life on her own terms. To really drive the screws into the audience, the couple is being interviewed for a story about their lives, and this decision. In separate rooms, they tell almost the same story painting a beautiful picture of love before another wild ending occurs.
The final story follows Warren (Samm Levine), as he begins his birthday spending some time to himself walking in the park. He gets a phone call from his mom, and begins talking to her. Suddenly something happens that should’ve killed him, but he finds himself very much alive. This is the first of the four stories that actually shows what happens days after the person finds out they’re immortal. It shows what he goes through to recover physically, but also mentally. He also has one thing in mind he has to deal with before he can move on in immortality.
All four of these stories are wonderfully crafted to explore immortality. The first story probably has the biggest twist before the next two gut-wrenching ones. They’re extremely tragic, and aren’t afraid to push the limits to get the audience’s emotions stirring. The final story takes a little bit of a different angel, and in a indirect way continues where the first story ends. On top of that, the acting is spot on from everyone involved. In particular, Dylan is perfect in his role, and Tony and Robin couldn’t have made their situation seem any realer. With that, I give “Immortal” 4 pools of blood!
