OCULUS REVIEW

A woman tries to exonerate her brother, who was convicted of murder, by proving that the crime was committed by a supernatural phenomenon.

Starring: Karen Gillian, Brenton Thwaites, and Katee Sackhoff

Directed by: Mike Flanagan

Written by: Mike Flanagan, and Jeff Howard

Mirror mirror on the wall, is "Oculus" any good at all? Well the first thing you need to know is that it constantly flashes back and forth to Kaylie (Karen Gillian) and Tim’s (Brenton Thwaites) childhood, and present day. It might be a bit much for some, but seems to be effective for what they are trying to accomplish. They use it to set up the story, and later get in some scares.
Speaking of scares, there aren't many jump out of your seat moments. However there is one moment that might get those eating popcorn to double check what they are putting in their mouth. While short on scares, the ghosts look pretty freaky with their glowing eyes.
After putting up with the flashbacks and lack of scares, the biggest problem is the ending. Besides learning about the history of the mirror, the story seems simple enough. If the audience is paying attention, it even gives away the ending before it gets there. The audience might be waiting for a clever twist, but unfortunately it never comes. Therefore the mirror on the wall gives “Oculus” 1.5 pools of blood.
