THE CANDY WITCH REVIEW

The Candy Witch seeks vengeance on the wealthy family that wronged her.

Starring: Jon Callaway, Abi Casson Thompson, and Kate Lush

Directed by: Rebecca Matthews

Written by: Scott Jeffrey

"The Candy Witch" follows Reece (Jon Callaway) and Kat (Abi Casson Thompson), who are paranormal investigators. Reece seems more interested in using his psychic abilities to help those plagued by spirits, while Kat’s interests lie with documenting it. They get called to a home where Ruth (Heather Jackson) is being haunted by a spirit. It turns out not to be any old spirit, but the Candy Witch (Kate Lush).
When they arrive at her house they’re greeted by some skepticism from Ruth’s family. They try to ignore it, and get to work on what’s happening. Not only is the Candy Witch haunting Ruth, but she’s also killing the people around her. The question here is why, and there’s a big twist in the story. Apparently this is a case where the past is coming back to kill people!
The twist is part of the good this film has to offer to horror fans. The other part is the kills provided by the Candy Witch. She lives up to her name by killing people with none other than candy. She carries a big candy cane which she puts to good use. Also, she uses candy like chocolate, cotton candy, and handfuls of good old fashion candy!
On the bad side of things, Reece isn’t the most exciting character. Yes, he takes his ability seriously, but probably a little too much so. Also, at times piecing everything together seems to take too much time. The pacing is a little slow, and is only helped out with some timely kills.
Overall, “The Candy Witch” turns out to be a good movie that maybe could have used some improvements here and there. As it should be, the Candy Witch is the star of the show, who ends up with an interesting backstory. The deaths by candy are certainly sweet. At times the investigation might be hard to follow, and the audience might forget the importance Reece is supposed to play in the story. A little bit of a faster pace could have helped a lot. With that, I give it a delicious 2.5 pools of blood.
