Special Screening of "Star Wars Rebels"

On Saturday, September 27th at AMC Aventura Theaters, there was a special screening event of "Star Wars Rebels." Many screenings are just for people to show up, stand in line, and then see the movie. However, there was a whole lot more to this event! Before the screening, there was plenty of fun to be had by the families in attendance.

First everyone had to check in, and get a raffle ticket for some great prizes that were awarded before the movie started.

Then kids were free to enjoy face painting...

do some coloring at a coloring station....

and get some cool Star Wars themed balloons made.

Some Storm Troopers were on hand for people to take pictures with as well.

The kids weren't the only ones having some fun. There were enough adults there who were just as interested in the seeing the movie. Of course I was one of them, and couldn't resist not taking a picture with a Storm Trooper. I mean I had the perfect t-shirt on!

The fan of the event had to go to the guy dressed as a fighter pilot. Many people including myself thought he was a hired actor like the Storm Troopers, but that wasn't the case. He was just a fan like the rest of us. I wonder what he will be for Halloween!

After the enjoying the activities everyone made there way into the theater. The room was packed, and the kids were eager for it to begin. Before it started, the Storm Troopers picked the winners of the aforementioned raffle. The winners got to take pictures with the Troopers, and their prize. And then it was time for what everyone came to... "Star Wars Rebels!"

Together, they will face threatening new villains, encounter colorful adversaries, embark on thrilling adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion. 

Star Wars Rebels is created by Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Sherlock Holmes), and Carrie Beck. The LucasfilmAnimation production is also executive-produced by Filoniand Kinberg as well as Greg Weisman (Gargoyles).

The talented voice cast includes Freddie Prinze Jr. as Kanan, Vanessa Marshall as Hera, Steve Blum as Zeb,Tiya Sircar as Sabine, Taylor Gray as Ezra, David Oyelowo as Agent Kallus and Jason Isaacs as the Inquisitor.

As for the movie, I enjoyed it. It stuck very much to the Star Wars style, which is Rebels were getting in the way of the Empire's plans. There was the introduction of Ezra, a teenager just trying to survive while finding his way into plenty of trouble along the way. There was a fun action scene before he ends up joining the crew of the starship Ghost. The crew was made up of some interesting characters, including one with a big surprise. In the end, there was enough action, suspense, and humor to please the fans in attendance. It also set up what should be another great animated TV series.

LEPRECHAUN: ORIGINS REVIEW

Two young couples backpacking through Ireland discover that one of Ireland’s most famous legends is a terrifying reality.

  The problem with "Leprechaun: Origins" starts with the title. This movie could have been titled a number of other things such as, "Chupacabra: Origins," "Skinned Werewolf's Revenge," "The Growling Forest Beast," or "Who Fried My Leprechaun." Why all the stupid titles? Well that’s because this movie really has nothing to do with the leprechaun horror fans have seen in space, the hood, or in any of the previous movies.

  The "Leprechaun: Origins" version is some kind of creature that is hard to make out. The first few times it appears audiences get to see the action through its eyes before finally getting a glimpse of what it is. Unfortunately, they decide to never give the audience a real clear look at the leprechaun they create. All the audience gets to see is a dark creature that likes to growl. It doesn’t have a top hat, little outfit, or shinny shoes. The only thing that gives the audience a clue that this is a leprechaun, besides the girl finding a book about it, is that the creature is attracted to gold.

  To go along with the disappointment of the leprechaun are the kills. Most of the kills are the kind where the audience gets to see the blood splatter, but not the actual kill. Probably the best kill isn't even done by the leprechaun. Add a pretty standard storyline with less than inspiring acting to top that off.

  "Leprechaun: Origins" is definitely one of those movies that remind horror fans why they don't like remakes, and reboots. If the audience is expecting to learn about the origins of the leprechaun they know, they can forget about it. It would have been a nice idea, but nope. Instead, audiences get a creature that they barely will see to go along with deaths that they barely will see. Overall the only thing the audience gets to see is a bad movie, which is why I give it .5 pools of blood.

BUNNYMAN MASSACRE REVIEW

The adventures of Joe and Bunnyman know no limit of bloodlust and carnage. Bodies pile up as Bunnyman indiscriminately slaughters anything that crosses his path in a mutually beneficial relationship that gives Joe plenty of beef jerky to sell in his local store.

  Horror fans have being complaining about remakes for a while now. Well what happens when there is a remake of a classic horror movie, but the horror icon is now in a bunny costume? All right, this really isn’t a remake, but just imagine if Leatherface in "Texas Chainsaw Massacre (TCM)" was in a bunny costume instead of a skin mask with butcher's clothing. It might be certain to say he wouldn’t be a horror icon.

  There are a few similarities between this movie and TCM. To start, the town seems similar. Joe, and Bunnyman live on a farm, and Joe even works in a store similar to Leatherface's family. Then there is the group of young adults that are passing through town, and ultimately cross paths with Bunnyman. Not to say these are necessarily bad things, but it lacks in originality.

  Then there are the kills. There is plenty blood and guts spilt, as it is a massacre after all! There is a surprising scene in the beginning where Bunnyman attacks a school bus full of kids. This isn't something audiences get to see a lot of. They can get a little credit for that even though the scene has its faults. Then back to some more unoriginality. Bunnyman goes from pretending to be Leatherface to Jason by simulating the famous camping bag kills.

  Having not seen the original, it's hard to tell if there is any added back-story to the Bunnyman. There are some flashbacks, or scenes where he seems to be remembering things. However, it's hard to tell how much this adds to his story, if anything at all. It's just strange, which might be expected from someone who is in a bunny costume. Speaking of the costume, it seems pretty standard, but would have been more interesting if he had bunny feet!

  “Bunnyman Massacre” isn’t a remake, but it might have horror fans thinking about some familiar horror icons, particularly Leatherface. While there is some originality in dressing up the killer in a bunny costume, there are plenty of scenes that will have horror fans thinking about TCM. The best thing the movie has going for it are the kills, even though some of them again lack originality. If audiences are looking for massacre by an unusual character then this might be the movie for them. With that, I give this movie 1.5 pools of blood mostly because of the massacre, and obviously not the originality.
