BEHIND THE SCENES: "THE WALKING DEAD" AT HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS 24

Part of my Halloween Horror Nights 24 (HHN) adventures was taking the Unmasking the Horror Tour. This tour takes fans on a behind the scenes look at their haunted houses. Our tour took us into 6 of their 8 houses so I decided to break them each up into their own post in order to give you a better look at each of them. This is a behind the scenes look at the “The Walking Dead” house.

The above video is a series of photos that I took while on the tour. What I will be doing now is describing some of the things you saw in the video, so you might want to read this and then go back and watch the video again.

The first bunch of pics in the video is of the outside of the house. On the left you have Terminus, which is your eventual exit. On the right is the prison, which is the beginning of the house. Outside of the prison you see some zombies surrounding the fences.

Here, and in the pic I would like to point out that’s Hershel's head in the background. If you weren't standing by the fence at night you might have missed him.

Next we see the dead pigs that Rick had in the prison yard. At night, there was a zombie on the left hand side, and it acted like it couldn't move away from the fence. However, when the right person came by, this zombie scare actor lounged towards them.

Then we make our way into the prison, and where everyone sleeps. Too bad at night no one was here but zombies. In the video, you can see the zombie that Hershel struggled with to get the tube for a sick Glenn.

From there we walk into the shower scene. At night there were zombies hiding behind some of the showers.

This is the third year they have done a Walking Dead house, and one of the fun things about them is noticing things from the show. It really puts you in that world, and makes you feel like you are reliving it. So here you see the famous burnt zombies courtesy of Carol.

There are a few things that I mentioned in other behind the scenes posts that happen in this house. One is the raven here. The others you can see in the video, which are other Disney button, and the name on the box of spaghetti sauce.

In the video, you see a few pics of these zombies, and even myself. This is one of the cooler effects in the house. Basically the zombies are on a ramp, and they come rolling down at you. It looked awesome in the darkness as they came at you. In the video you can tell we are in the store the group was in that had the zombies fall in from the roof. You can see a hanging zombie, and helicopter.

Ah... just like last year I found Daryl's crossbow!

This next room was fun. It had mirrors on the wall, and was full of fake zombies. Throw in some zombie scare actors at night, and the mirrors made it seem like you were surrounded by more zombies then were actually in the room.

The room that was like the golf course Daryl and Beth were at had more noticeable items. In the video you can see more hanging zombies, the bra, and Beth's poor choice of a drink. A few pics after that in the video you will see a rock. At night zombie scare actors were in them making noise replaying the scene with Glenn and Maggie in the tunnel.

Don't look at the flowers!!!!

That's me replacing Mary on the grill! Tainted meat anyone?

After that we walk into that creepy room in Terminus where the candles, and names were all over the place. You definitely don't want to be in there for too long.

One of the best things about last year's Walking Dead house was the fenced in area around the prison. It was full of zombies trying to get you while you struggled to figure out how to escape. Well they did a similar fenced in area as you tried to escape Terminus. Again there were plenty of zombies trying to get you before the exit. Once again a very nice job.

Overall "The Walking Dead" house was awesome! It was the biggest house HHN has done, and it was well worth it. If you are a fan of the show, it was a must to walk through it. They did a great job of covering scenes from season 4. The only thing missing were the characters, which they weren't allowed to include. So that was a look at the "The Walking Dead” house.  If you have any questions about the house, or HHN24, please feel free to ask.

Horror Movie Survival Kit

Man Crates is a new company that ships awesome gifts for men in custom wooden crates that he has to open with a crowbar! At Man Crates, it is their mission to end the difficulties that have long been associated with buying gifts for men. And what does Man Crates have to do with horror? Well, while they have a wide assortment of crates, they also have horror themed ones like their "Zombie Survival Crate." Someone at Man Crates asked me to create my own Horror Movie Survival Kit as part of their Halloween celebration so here we go!

Us horror fans know that is usually takes a lot to survive a horror film. A lot of it comes from the person's will to live, and a little luck. Obviously those things don't come in a crate, so lets start by thinking about the kind of horror movies we could end up in. We have zombies, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, aliens, end of the world scenarios, and even sharknados! Even with a crate I'm not sure we could be totally prepared for all of those things, but lets give it a try.

Lets start with something simple like a pair of guns. With guns we must have ammo, so lets include regular bullets, wooden bullets, and a few silver ones. I'm not sure what's going to stop an alien, but lets think Star Trek and include a phaser. Ok, there might not by such a thing, but neither are zombies, vampires, and werewolves (supposedly).

Guns and phasers are good, but they won't last so lets include either a metal bat, or machete. They can be useful against many creatures, and humans that have gotten out of control (thank you Walking Dead). Everyone has a knife so throw that in there. How about something old school like brass knuckles? They just might come in handy if you’re in hand-to-hand combat. And how could I forget one of my favorites the chainsaw! Too bad that's probably too big for the kit.

Moving on from weapons, lets think of some other useful items. A cross necklace wouldn't hurt. Maybe even a bigger cross to carry just in case that powerful demon comes along. We can throw in some holy water with that. Here's one courtesy of Supernatural...some salt. Lets keep those demons out of the house! Oh and here's something useful... night vision! Although that hasn't always worked out for who ever is using it in recent movies.

All right, we can't over look food. I wouldn't get too carried anyway with it since most people in horror movies don't stop for snacks. However, if we were in the apocalypse or end of the world some food wouldn't hurt. Everyone has their own taste so since this is my kit I'll include some chips, peanuts, crackers, hard candy, water, and Dr. Pepper! Yes, my caffeine of choice since I can't take a Starbucks with me!

Hopefully this crate comes with some wheels because that is a lot of stuff to carry around. I didn't even include other things like stakes, matches, lighters, extra clothes, camping gear, handcuffs, a first aid kit, etc. Anyways, hopefully I have enough to survive at least a few days depending on which horror movie I end up in. So what would be in your kit?

BEHIND THE SCENES: "AVP - ALIEN VS PREDATOR" AT HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS 24

Part of my Halloween Horror Nights 24 (HHN) adventures was taking the Unmasking the Horror Tour. This tour takes fans on a behind the scenes look at their haunted houses. Our tour took us into 6 of their 8 houses so I decided to break them each up into their own post in order to give you a better look at each of them. This is a behind the scenes look at the “AVP: Alien vs. Predator” house.

The above video is a series of photos that I took while on the tour. What I will be doing now is describing some of the things you saw in the video, so you might want to read this and then go back and watch the video again.

The first few pics are of the entrance to the house, or crashed spaceship in this case. Just as you get the feel for the spaceship atmosphere, you run into these guys…

In this house, the aliens like this guy were puppets. If you were at last year's HHN, these aliens were done similar to the werewolves in the "American Werewolf in London" house. The heads, and jaws would come out at you as you walked by.

In this room, there was a dead predator on the table. In the video you can see his wound. There's even a dead scientist on the floor.

Here you see a small alien in an awkward position. What you might not be able to tell is that it's actually behind a window, and comes flying up at it similar to what you see in the movie.

You might be wondering where are all the predators besides the dead one on the table. Well, the predators were all scare actors. Actually, we got to see some back stage, and they were very big and tall scare actors. Apparently during the first weekend they didn't show themselves that much, but in the weeks to follow they changed that. They made sure everyone would see the predators after that.

The aliens like that guy were just as cool. Don't be fooled by them just being puppets.

Speaking of cool, I enjoyed walking over the platform, and seeing the alien eggs. It just seemed right to have them included in the fun.

And if you have eggs, then you have to have humans caught in the alien web of nastiness. The humans in the video are obviously fake, but at night there's a real scare actor hiding in one.

I also enjoyed the skinned guy hanging here!

Here they had some screens for you to look at. Of course, while you are looking at them, they were either aliens or predators waiting for you.

Overall, this was an awesome house. The alien puppets were just as cool as last year's werewolves. The predators were giants, and so real like. They did a great job of putting you right in the world of these two creatures. So that was a look at the "AVP: Aliens vs. Predators” house.  If you have any questions about the house, or HHN24, please feel free to ask.

BEHIND THE SCENES: "ROANOKE - CANNIBAL COLONY" HOUSE AT HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS 24

This is a behind the scenes look at the “Roanoke - Cannibal Colony” house.

The above video is a series of photos that I took while on the tour. What I will be doing now is describing some of the things you saw in the video, so you might want to read this and then go back and watch the video again.

Several of the first pics are of the entrance to this cannibal colony. In the video you see a pic of a guy on the right hand side. He's in a lot of pain, and makes all kinds of noise at night. The two guys in this pic are as dead as they look, but at night there is someone hiding behind them to scare you.

There isn't much to explain about this house. It's based on the lost colony of Roanoke. HHN decided to make their own version of the story about cannibals. Therefore in the video you will notice this is a bloody house full of body parts. These cannibals were eating good as you can see!

I included the above pic simply because it reminds me of Daryl. Looks like he would be facing cannibals in both worlds.

How did the cannibals cook their food? On a barbecue pit of course! You will find a few of them in this house. At night, there's a scare actor laying in this one acting like he's being cooked.

Here's a nice pile of bones. In the video, you might notice there's a pic of a seat behind it. At night, there's a scare actor there to welcome you as you pass by. The cannibal scare actors were funny because many of them would say, "meat" as you passed by. I'm glad they didn't cook us!

I wouldn’t want to end up like this guy!

Part of what's going on here besides the cooking is the colony burning down. Standing around this area at night are several scare actors that are still alive, and trying to escape the fire. Apparently they decided to burn everything down, as opposed to being eaten!

The final room of the house featured two scare actors on stilts coming out of the corners of the room to scare you. They were pretty intimidating especially if you are paying attention to things like this table of brains.

Overall not the scariest house, but certainly one of the bloodiest. It was awesome seeing all of the carnage the cannibals had created with their meals. I hope you watched the video to see all of that carnage! The scare actors were fun to listen too. This actually ended up being a good year for all of their original houses. So that was a look at the "Roanoke – Cannibal Colony” house.  If you have any questions about the house, or HHN24, please feel free to ask.

BEHIND THE SCENES: "DOLLHOUSE OF THE DAMNED" HOUSE AT HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS 24

This is a behind the scenes look at the “Dollhouse of the Damned” house.

The above video is a series of photos that I took while on the tour. What I will be doing now is describing some of the things you saw in the video, so you might want to read this and then go back and watch the video again.

The first series of pics in the video are shots of the outside of the house. It's a wooden frame decorated with what other than baby doll parts. There are arms, legs, heads, and even some complete dolls too. On the roof there is a raven, which is something the designers add to each house every year. For those of us who know about it, it's always fun looking for.

The first scare in this house can be seen in the above pic. It doesn't look like much here, but at night there's a scare actor up there being very still. She will eventually move in an attempt to scare people passing by. She is just a warm up for the most disturbing thing about this house, which comes next.

In the video you will see a couple of pics of large baby cribs. They are large because at night there are some large baby scare actors in them. When I say large, I really mean they have some giant heads. The heads look similar to the head on the wall you see at the end of the video.

These are some bad babies. They have made a mess of their cribs, and yes the walls. That is what you think it is on the walls!

Besides the scary babies, you might find some familiar faces. The above pic is a Teddy Rubskin bear split in half, and stuck on the wall. In the video, you might have also seen a Carebear on the wall as well

Then there is the big toy room filled with more dolls. They are all over the place to catch your attention while scare actors are trying to scare you. Here you see a familiar face in the doll from "Dead Silence." I look forward to finding him in a house ever year. In the video, you will see he appears in several places in the room.

And this guy needs no introduction. He was hard to find at night.

Now here's a scare they have done before. In this pic it looks like just a stack of stuffed toys. However, if you look closely there's a trigger on top because at night a scare actor covered in toys becomes part of the stack of toys. Of course he jumps up to scare people as they walk by. There's another stack of toys in the room to distract you. You will also see in the video some creepy looking mummy like figures on the wall. They were freaky looking, yet funny because they were holding dolls.

The final room of the house was fun. There were lots of mirrors to catch your attention. In the center of the room were some ballerinas. As you might expect, at night one of them was actually a scare actor. Dance with her if you dare.

And here's a look at the aforementioned large baby heads. I thought it was funny how they had body parts in their mouths. Below is a bonus video of a few seconds of the house at night, and the people going into it.

Overall, this turned out to be a fun house to walk through. Like I said, the babies with the big heads were definitely disturbing. There was a lot to see in the house, so hopefully you went through it more than once to find all of the dolls. So that was a look at the "Dollhouse of the Damned” house.  If you have any questions about the house, or HHN24, please feel free to ask.
