The film centers on two estranged sisters who, along with their friends, become entrenched in a 48 hour whirlwind of violence after a traumatic experience at an underground music festival.

By the time “Dreamcatcher” is over this group of friends will wish it was all just a dream. Friends Pierce (Niki Koss) and Jake (Zachary Gordon) are home watching a horror movie when Pierce's sister Ivy (Elizabeth Posey) and her friend Brecken (Emrhys Cooper) come over for a visit. After a quick reunion Ivy has a big surprise for Pierce in the form of tickets to a huge music festival that’s going on. Pierce couldn’t be happier, but this isn’t really the scene for Jake. He’s out voted, and off to the festival they go.
Pierce is ready for some fun, but the others haven’t warmed up to the fest yet. This causes some tension amongst them when Pierce wants to go off with one of the headlining DJs. When she’s gone too long her friends go looking for her. They find her along with Dylan or DJ Dreamcatcher (Travis Burns) in almost a drugged out state of mind. Unfortunately for all of them, things are about to take a bad turn and it’s only going to get worse.
The first thing to know about this film is that it’s a slasher film. The killer here has a pretty cool mask for the audience to enjoy, but intimidating enough for the victims they stalk. They get off to a smashing start in the opening scene, and continue to exhibit no mercy throughout. And just when the audience thinks they know the who and the why, they will be in for a big surprise.
Before the big surprise, the audience will get a couple of other twists and turns, among some interesting characters all wanting things they can’t have. Some among this group of friends and a few more characters introduced along the way find themselves wanting to be in relationships that aren’t in the cards for them. Other are trying to hold onto things like jobs, and power. Josephine (Adrienne Wilkinson), who is Dylan’s agent, is definitely a power player here, and the others don’t want to be on her bad side. They all will become too distracted with the events at the festival and themselves to see what’s coming to get them.
Admittedly the ending twist caught me a little off guard, so I guess I was distracted just like the characters. They played the obvious card well, and snuck in a little bonus surprise. It did feel like there’s more to the story I just didn't see it happening the way it turned out. In the end, the movie does a good job presenting characters who aren’t prepared to deal with the situation they find themselves in. While that should’ve been the focus, they end up thinking about other things, which costs them their lives. The killer fits the bill for what’s needed here, and has a great mask to top it off. No dreaming here, I give “Dreamcatcher” 3 pools of blood.
