THE FURIES REVIEW

A woman is kidnapped and finds herself an unwilling participant in a deadly game where women are hunted by masked men.

Starring: Airlie Doods, Linda Ngo, Ebony Vagulans, and Taylor Ferguson

Written and directed by: Tony D’Aquino

With “The Furies” comes another horror movie where people are hunted down. It opens right in the middle of the action with a girl being chased by a guy with a creepy mask. As usual, she trips and falls with the killer closing in until something a little different happens. No spoilers here, as the audience is then introduced to friends Kayla (Airlie Dodds), and Maddie (Ebony Vagulans). The two friends have an argument at a bad time, and get taken to be a part of this killing game in the middle of nowhere.
Kayla has some weird visions before waking up in a box. When she gets out, she finds herself alone in a dense forest. She immediately starts looking for her friend before she runs into two girls. There’s something wrong with her, so she runs back to the box. She looks for pills to help with her epilepsy, but they’re not there. When looking for something a little different in this story, this is one of them. Her battle with epilepsy is definitely not ideal for the situation and causes some good tension, but also comes in handy.
The girls continue to run and hide from the masked men because they’re certainly not to be messed with for the most part. Some are very brutal and out for blood, and there is plenty of blood spilled by the end of this game. However, the women hold their own, especially Kayla who goes to the extreme at times. There’s another nice twist in the story, which the women figure out, and use to their advantage.
In the end, “The Furies” is another survival of the fittest kind of story. Kayla might not seem like it because of her epilepsy, but she’s motivated to survive and find her friend. She also uses her smarts, as she figures out some of the twists in this story. It’s the little twists that help the story be more than just another game of killing for the hell of it, which would have been fine with me if enough blood and guts were spilled. The ending actually left me wanting a little more…just to see what the next scene would be, but maybe that’s for a sequel. Otherwise, enough blood is spilled here for me to give it 3 pools of blood!

FLORIDA SUPERCON CONVENTION 2010 REVIEW

Florida SuperCon, a place where fans of all kinds of genres, came together for 3 days of fun. Cosplay, which was a big part of the convention, gave fans an opportunity to dress up, and take part in contests and photo shoots. Comic book and anime fans enjoyed events such as, “The History of Anime,” “Anime You Should Watch,” “DC Comic Book Legends,” and a “Fantastic Four (1994) Film Screening.” There were celebrities from a variety of TV shows, movies, and even wrestling to take pictures with, and get autographs from. And for horror fans like you, and me, there was plenty to do, as I take you through my 3 day journey of the Florida SuperCon convention.   When I walked in on the first day, I couldn’t help but notice the instant party atmosphere. Arriving later in the day, I could tell fun had already overtaken the convention. I didn’t waste too much time making my way to my first event, which was “Filmmaker Workshop with Herschell Gordon ...

TOP 5 BEST AND WORST HORROR MOVIES OF 2010

2010 started off well with some descent movies such as, Daybreakers, Legion, and The Wolfman. A few months in came probably the most anticipated, and talked about movie of the year: the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Some of the talk was positive, but more of it seemed negative. Speaking of greatly talked about movies, I can’t forget to mention the DVD release of The Human Centipede. The summer kicked off with Splice, and ended with The Last Exorcism. October should have been a time to celebrate with horror movies, but the box office was pretty weak for movies such as, My Soul to Take 3D, Let Me In, and Hatchet 2. On the other hand, it ended well with Saw 3D, and Paranormal Activity 2.   What does all of this mean? It is about that time of year to wrap up the 2010 horror movie season, and move on to 2011. With that said, here is my list of favorite, and least favorite horror movies of 2010. As with my list from last year, this list includes only the movies I saw...
