The
outback once more becomes a place of horror as another unwitting tourist
becomes the prey for crazed, serial-killing pig-hunter Mick Taylor.

Is it wrong to like a deranged serial
killer so much? Obviously many horror fans like Freddy, Jason, and Michael, but
besides their beginnings they're far from real. Mick Taylor (John Jarratt)
seems to be as real as it gets. He's not the undead, possessed, back from the
other side, or extraterrestrial. Mick is simply a human, who's funny, quick-witted,
and as dangerous as can be. He also has a terrific laugh that never gets old.
And how can the audience not love him
when it gets to spend so much time with him in this sequel? "Wolf
Creek" spends plenty of time on the story of the eventual victims. It
builds to the standard point of making the audience care for the victims as
Mick hunts them down. "Wolf Creek 2" goes in the opposite direction,
as there's more screen time for Mick. The audience doesn't have to wait for a
surprise appearance from Mick, as he's up to his old tricks from the beginning. There
is a quick set up on a couple traveling in the outback, but not enough for the
audience to truly be upset about what's going to happen to them.
When Mick picks his next target, again
there is little time to build up any emotions for them. The audience may want
them to get away, but it won't be because they develop a soft spot for them
based on their past, or future. In an interesting twist, the audience really
gets to know the most about them when they spend some quality time with Mick.
It quickly becomes a classic scene in this franchise's short history. Oh, and
shame on those who are rooting against Mick!
Audiences still might not know much
about Mick by the end of this movie, but one of the most important things to
remember is that he's a pig-hunter. What's important about that is how he
treats his human victims the same as he would a pig, even referring to them as
pigs. Mick relentlessly tracks them down, and dishes out some serious
punishment. He spills plenty of blood either blowing away his victims with his
on target shooting, or chopping them up with the closest sharp object. And in
another classic scene, he brings a whole new meaning to “road kill!”
"Wolf Creek" was a pleasant
surprise for many horror fans including myself. Some fans might be worried if
"Wolf Creek 2" could conjure up the same magic after so much time
between movies. Well, as you might be able to guess by now, there's nothing to
worry about. John Jarrett puts on another awesome performance, as he gets
audiences to fall in love with Mick Taylor all over again. Mick has everything
he needs to be that crazy and deadly serial killer horror fans want to see.
With that, I give this movie 3.5 pools of blood!
