On the way to a heavy metal concert, Alexis and two girlfriends hear a news report of a local murder believed to be tied to a series of satanic killings. After the show, the girls invite three guys to join them at the estate owned by Alexis’s father, a fire-and-brimstone preacher. What starts as a party suddenly turns dark and deadly in this devilishly entertaining thriller.

“We Summon the Darkness” opens with three girls on the open road heading to a heavy metal concert. Right off the bat, the audience gets to see what a fun trio this is. Alexis (Alexandra Daddario) is the ‘won’t take any shit’ type of leader of the group. Val (Maddie Hasson) is just as care free, great at playing follow the leader, and has a timely bladder problem. Bev (Amy Forsyth) is the new comer, and finding it hard to be wild and crazy like the other two. Before any of the horror begins, the audience will definitely be hooked on these three.
And when the horror begins, the audience will love them even more. They meet three guys on their journey to the concert, and after a rocky start invite them back to Alexis’s father’s house after the concert. The party doesn’t stop there as conversations begin, and motives come to light. Instead of the guys being up to no good, it’s the devilish ladies who turn this party upside-down! The guys find themselves tied up in a room with satanic writing on the walls, and the girls ready to draw some blood.
Things quickly spin out of control, and the ladies won’t be stopped until they get what they want. Plenty of blood is spilled as the guys fight for their lives. It’s an entertaining back and forth between the two groups, especially from the girls who are having too good of a time trying to kill the guys. There are a few twists and turns in the story with at least one not being so surprising. Regardless, it still manages to add to the chaos of the situation.
While some in this movie (and elsewhere) might praise Satan, applause should also go to whoever put this cast together. The chemistry between Alexandra, Maddie, and Amy is off the charts. Each brings the right amount of energy and attitude their character demands. On the boys side of the equation, Keean, Logan, and Austin might seem a little like an odd threesome, but they also come together nicely. Then there’s Johnny Knoxville, who doesn’t have a huge role, but pulls it off perfectly.
“We Summon the Darkness” could have been called “We Summon the Fun” because it’s an entertaining ride from beginning to end. With a care-free attitude, the girls play off of each other so well, and it only gets better as the story builds. The amusing beginning sets a wonderful stage for the horror to come. The face-off between the ladies and gentlemen gets plenty bloody, and completely crazy! On top of that, there are a few unexpected surprises they have in store that complete the story nicely. With that, I summon 3.5 pools of blood for this one!
