THE HONEYMOON PHASE REVIEW

Struggling young lovers, Tom and Eve, must endure a 30-day scientific experiment. Room, board, $50,000 and a month alone together in research facility housing. What could possibly go wrong.

Starring: Francois Chau, Tara Westwood, Chloe Carroll, and Jim Schubin

Directed and written by: Phillip G. Carroll Jr.

Ah the honeymoon phase, a time for a couple to really get to know each other. It can come with a lot of fun in and out of the bedroom. It also comes with some decisions to be made about their future. In “The Honeymoon Phase,” Tom (Jim Schubin) and Eve (Chloe Carroll) have a big decision of their own to make. They’re presented with the opportunity to take part in an experiment, and receive $50,000 along with a few other perks.
Thinking the money would help with future plans for a family, the couple decides to give the experiment a chance. They go through an orientation before settling in their new apartment for the next month. It has everything they need, and the high tech quarters can get them anything else they need along the way. After settling in, it’s all about them, and some private time together in the bedroom. Yes the bedroom, where the problems for this couple and many others begins.
While they’re a couple the story leans a little more towards Eve. It paints her as maybe being unstable and seeing things, and she’s given reason not to trust Tom. The honeymoon seems to be going downhill quickly, and the movie uses this opportunity to show what happens in abusive relationships. It starts more in a verbal way, but then becomes physical as well. He’s obsessed with having a baby, but she doesn’t want one yet. This is clearly their biggest issue, and one that plays a big role in what’s to come.

There’s plenty of tension, drama, and horror in those moments, but the horror fans are looking for is still to come. As it appears, there’s more going on here in this experiment. A few secrets are revealed including a big secret which eventually puts Eve in an extremely tough position. It all sets up a very fitting ending to the honeymoon.
While Tom and Eve can’t get along, Jim and Chloe form a good bond. They have good chemistry together, even in the many moments their characters are losing that chemistry. It would have been nice to see Francois a little more in his mysterious doctor role, but his character isn’t the focus. Overall, they do a good job highlighting relationship abuse without distracting from the story, and where it goes. They also do a good job setting up where this story is headed, and finding an exciting ending. My honeymoon with “The Honeymoon Phase” is over, as I give it 3 pools of blood!

Horror Movie Survival Kit

Man Crates is a new company that ships awesome gifts for men in custom wooden crates that he has to open with a crowbar! At Man Crates, it is their mission to end the difficulties that have long been associated with buying gifts for men.  And what does Man Crates have to do with horror? Well, while they have a wide assortment of crates, they also have horror themed ones like their "Zombie Survival Crate." Someone at Man Crates asked me to create my own Horror Movie Survival Kit as part of their Halloween celebration so here we go! Us horror fans know that is usually takes a lot to survive a horror film. A lot of it comes from the person's will to live, and a little luck. Obviously those things don't come in a crate, so lets start by thinking about the kind of horror movies we could end up in. We have zombies, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, aliens, end of the world scenarios, and even sharknados! Even with a crate I'm not sure we could be totally prep

POPCORN FRIGHTS REVIEW: WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING

After Melissa and her family seek shelter from a storm, they become trapped. With no sign of rescue, Melissa comes to realize that she and her girlfriend Amy might have something to do with the horrors that threaten her family. Starring: Lisette Alexis, John James Cronin, Pat Healy, Vinessa Shaw and Sierra McCormick Directed by: Sean King O’Grady Written by: Max Booth III A Popcorn Frights Film Festival Review   How many horror movies come to that part when a character says, “We Need To Do Something?” A big storm has hit, and forced a family to hunker down in one of their bathrooms for safety. Parents Diane (Vinessa Shaw) and Robert (Pat Healy) figured that was the best place to be with their teen daughter Melissa (Sierra McCormick), and young son Bobby (John James Cronin). In a way it turns out to be a good decision because a tree comes down onto the house destroying part of it. The family is safe except for one thing.   The tree has blocked the bathroom door, and left them stranded
